Christophar Maynard Viola for sale.
A line can be drawn straight from Amati through Stradivarius to this instrument. After graduating from the Newark School of Violin-making, Maynard underwent 15 years of research, some of which made ground breaking discoveries in terms of the physics, geometrics, and proportions of the violin and viola.
This viola is the first instrument made using this research. Completed in December 2004 the viola is made from Maple and Sycamore and is 16 and a half inches.
The condition is excellent, exactly how it was when I came across the instrument before it was even strung.
The tone has been said to match that of a 400 year old viola made in Italy by Gasparo da Salo, when it was only freshly strung; the woods were hand chosen by the maker. What he said was fairly unusual in that he made the instrument inside out, thinking entirely about the sound in the process.
It is an advanced/professional level instrument and by no means should be stuck in a box in an attic.
